About male chest enhancements

Male pectoral implants, also known as chest implants, are used to ‘bulk out’ the existing pectoral muscles by inserting solid silicone under the real muscle. The procedure is sometimes used for patients with congenital chest defects, or those who have lost muscle in an accident or injury.

Otherwise, this type of procedure is undergone by men who want to increase their chest size to improve their pectoral shape. It can help to build self-confidence in men who may suffer from low self-esteem due to their appearance.

The procedure

Male pectoral surgery usually takes around two hours to complete, and is carried out using a general anaesthetic. The silicone used in the surgery is solid, as opposed to the liquid utilised in female breast implants.

During the procedure, the cosmetic surgeon will make a small incision into the patient’s armpit before guiding the implant through the body using an endoscope. The implants are held in place by the chest muscle sitting on top of them. Once the implants are in place, the incisions are sutured.

In some cases, this procedure is combined with liposuction, where the fat around the chest area is removed before the implants are inserted.

What can go wrong?

Male chest implants are usually performed without complications. However, as the number of men undergoing the procedure increases, so do instances of complications and negligence. Combining this with the unregulated nature of the cosmetic surgery industry, we are seeing more cases where negligence has left patients in pain and feeling deeply unhappy.

The recovery period for this surgery is usually around six weeks, but most patients can resume normal activities within one month. If you have undergone this procedure, but believe mistakes by a surgeon or clinic have left you unable to resume your normal day-to-day life in comfort, you may be entitled to compensation.

The following symptoms can occur if your operation has not been carried out to a high standard

  • Implant displacement or shifting
  • Asymmetry of the chest
  • Inappropriate scarring
