Lipofilling (Fat Transfer) Negligence Claims

Have you been left scarred by errors made during your lipofilling procedure?

Fat transfer, which is sometimes known as fat grafting or fat injections, is a cosmetic surgery procedure commonly performed on the breasts, buttocks, hands and face. This involves employing liposuction techniques to remove fat from one area of the body, to then be injected into another area that has less volume than desired.

A trained medical practitioner carries out the procedure, by transferring fat from the abdomen or thighs and re-injecting it into the another area of the body. This can not only be performed in order to replace volume that may have been lost on various parts of the body, but can also be performed to create an improved contour.

There are four main types of fat transfer procedures:

How Do I Know If I Can Make a Claim for Fat Transfer Negligence?

While a fat transfer procedure is usually performed without complication, if an error has been made by your cosmetic surgeon, the consequences can be painful. Following a lipomodelling procedure, the patient is usually required to stay in hospital for several hours to make sure there is no excessive swelling or bruising. Significant amounts of fat may be absorbed by the body following a fat transfer surgery procedure, meaning some patients require more than one treatment.

Complications that can arise following the surgery, that may have been caused as a result of cosmetic surgery negligence include:

  • Asymmetry disfigurement – where the fat transfer leaves skin area unequal in shape
  • Fat necrosis- Where the tissue begins die
  • Lumps under the skin
  • Overfill – where too much fat is injected into the face. With time, the grafted fat can grow, resulting in the face appearing heavy and distorted
  • Blood clots – Although rare, blood clots could form both at the treated location, or the donated area

If you feel you may have suffered as a result of a negligent fat transfer and your issue hasn’t be listed above, you may still be able to make a claim for compensation. Simply phone one of our cosmetic surgery negligence solicitors, for free information and advice.
