Chemical Peel Gone Wrong

Negligence During or After a Chemical Peel Procedure? Contact Cosmetic Surgery Solicitors.

Chemical peels have become very popular for cosmetic surgery patients and it involves the application of chemicals to the top layer of the skin to kill off any dead skin cells and promote new cell growth. If the treatment is successful, the regenerated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the skin that has been shed. Chemical peels can be used to treat skin conditions like acne, liver spots as well as skin damaged by the sun. Although chemical peel treatments are normally for the face, they can also be used to improve skin on the neck and hands.

There are three different types of chemical peels. The first, a light chemical peel removes the outer layer of skin or epidermis using chemicals like alphahydroxy acids and beta hydroxy acids. The effects of a light chemical peel are temporary so treatment has to be repeated to retain the improved skin tone.  The second type of skin treatment is a medium chemical peel which removes the skin cells from both the epidermis and the middle layer of skin using glycolic or trichloroacetic acid. A medium chemical peel treatment can be repeated every six months. The third type of chemical peel causes a second-degree skin burn and penetrates several layers of skin using tricholoracetic acid or phenol. This chemical peel is used only on a patient’s face and can normally be used only once. The patient takes longest to recover of all the three types of chemical peel.

Unfortunately when chemicals are involved then there is always the potential that your peel can go wrong and if that is the case due to the incompetence of your cosmetic clinic or practitioner then you may be able to make a compensation claim.
