Receive Financial Compensation Following Liposuction Surgery Gone Wrong
When a person gains weight each of their fat cells increases in size and volume. Liposuction removes small amounts of unwanted body fat from those parts of the body that are particularly resistant to exercise and diet and where fat deposits normally build up like the abdomen, hips, buttocks and thighs.
While liposuction is a poplar cosmetic procedure with both men and women, there is a limit to how much fat can be removed safely from any one part of the body and lipo can’t deal with cellulite or stretch marks.
It takes a considerable financial investment to undergo liposuction surgery and the patient has every right to expect professional and competent cosmetic medical care from the liposuction surgeon or clinic. When negligence does occur during liposuction however, the patient can be forced to make a claim for compensation.

How Liposuction Surgery Works
A liposuction procedure usually lasts up to two hours although this depends how much fat is to be sucked out and where it is to be suctioned from. While there are many different types of liposuction techniques, they all follow a similar path.
A small cut is made where the fat is to be suctioned from and the liposuction surgeon inserts a thin plastic tube or cannula through the incision underneath the patient’s skin. Using the cannula the cosmetic surgeon performing the liposuction manually breaks up the fat cells before attaching a vacuuming device to extract the fat. Once this is completed the liposuction surgeon sutures the incision to close it up.
Where the liposuction techniques differ is in the means of loosening the fat cells. Tumescent lipo uses the method outlined above while water jet assisted liposuction uses a lightly pressurised stream of water to dislodge the fat cells. Laser liposuction surgery utilises a fibre optic laser built into the cannula to liquefy the fat cells before extracting them with a vacuum as above.

After liposuction treatment, patients may experience pain and discomfort for a few days but swelling and bruising can take more than a month to subside. The final liposuction results may take up to six months to appear as it takes time for the patient’s skin to readjust to the fat extraction.
That is what happens if the surgery is successful but if your cosmetic surgeon or clinic botched your liposuction then you may need a specialist lawyer who deals with liposuction negligence cases. Some of the complications that can ensure from a lipo surgery gone wrong include the following:
- The skin around the treatment area blackens and dies
- Failed liposuction causes poor body shape or contour irregularities
- Botched Lipo leads to nerve damage or numbness
- When a liposuction goes wrong, than lumpy and uneven skin are the results
