Sky News Highlights Cosmetic Surgery Negligence

Plastic Surgery Gone Wrong on UK TV

Sky News recently highlighted a worrying trend amongst cosmetic surgery patients to rush into cut-price plastic surgery procedures without doing any research.

As part of a new campaign by the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS), consultant cosmetic surgeon Nigel Mercer told Sky News that “deals have an enormous impact on this market. We’ve seen Groupon deals”

This new campaign from BAPRAS, ‘Think Over Before You Make Over’ is calling on potential cosmetic surgery patients to be aware of all the safety factors before embarking on cut-price procedures that can put them at serious risk.

Mercer told Sky News that “you wouldn’t go for cut price brain surgery or cut price gall bladder surgery – you would want the best that you can get”.

Michael Saul, Partner and Head of Cosmetic Negligence Claims for Cosmetic Surgery Solicitors has seen at first hand the effects that cut-price cosmetic surgery negligence can have on patients. Talk to Michael today on 0800 634 0285 or request a call back from one of our dedicated Cosmetic Claims team if you’ve suffered from cosmetic medical negligence.

The Faulty Economics of Cut Price Cosmetic Surgery

As part of their ‘Think Over Before You Make Over’, BAPRAS commissioned a survey of attitudes and approaches to cosmetic surgery and some of their findings have highlighted a huge lack of awareness on what patients base their decision to have plastic surgery.

BAPRAS suggests that economics is driving plastic surgery patients with more than half of all cosmetic surgery patients (53%) considering costs as the determining factor when deciding where to have cosmetic surgery.

Over half of patients also found themselves susceptible to hard sell marketing from cosmetic surgery clinics to consider a cosmetic treatment that they wouldn’t otherwise have thought about. Again over half of potential cosmetic surgery patients are heavily influenced by celebrities having similar treatment. BAPRAs believes that patients who decide on cosmetic surgery for those reasons are much more likely to have disappointing surgical results.

If you’ve had disappointing plastic surgery due to the negligence of your cosmetic surgeon, call Cosmetic Surgery Solicitors today on 0800 634 0285 or request a call back from one of our expert Cosmetic Claims team to start a claim for financial compensation.

Botched Cosmetic Surgery on Sky News

During the Sky News programme, a cosmetic surgery patient Suzie Adams, 40, from Bridgwater in Somerset was interviewed about how she had suffered from cosmetic surgery negligence.

Suzie thought she had found a good cut-price cosmetic surgery deal in Prague for what she called a “tidy-up and a tummy tuck”. Unfortunately, her cut price deal left her in a great deal of physical and emotional pain when she was left with unsightly scars and developed blood poisoning from her infected wound.

Suzie was left with months of follow-up treatment and long-term pain and she felt devastated, “I hated my body – it was worse than when I started. I didn’t like anybody seeing me, even my children or my partner. I felt like a freak.”

If you’ve experienced cosmetic surgery negligence like Suzie, you may be entitled to financial compensation.
