Following the tragic death, the Miami-Dade police department carried out an inspection of the Vanity Cosmetic Surgery clinic and found no violations. The clinic has since returned to business as usual and issued a statement expressing their deepest condolences to Christian’s family. In the statement, they confirmed that Christian was in good health before the procedure and had previously undergone two other cosmetic surgery procedures at the same clinic.
This isn’t the first time Vanity Cosmetic Surgery has hit the headlines; it was under investigation in January after it was revealed customers were struggling to get refunds for cancelled procedures. More worryingly, there have been three other deaths at two cosmetic surgery centres operated by the same owner as Vanity Cosmetic Surgery. The Better Business Bureau gave the cosmetic surgery clinic an F rating and also listed an alert for the business.
Unfortunately, this is a tragic reminder that cosmetic surgery carries an inherent risk and highlights the importance of selecting a reputable cosmetic surgery clinic. In the UK, it will hopefully be easier to identify clinics with a bad track record thanks to plans to name and shame inadequate clinics.
