An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Negligence Solicitor to join the specialist Cosmetic Surgery Solicitors department at TJL Solicitors LLP.

TJL established its dedicated cosmetic surgery negligence department in 2005, making us one of the first law firms in the country to develop a specialist legal service for victims of negligent cosmetic treatment. Since then, we have built substantial experience in this complex and highly specialised area of clinical negligence law.

The successful candidate will initially work closely with Michael Saul, Partner and Head of our Cosmetic Surgery Negligence Department and a highly regarded practitioner in the field. You will support Michael with a varied caseload while developing the specialist knowledge and practical experience needed to manage your own cases from instruction through to settlement or trial.

The Role

Working alongside Michael and the wider team, your responsibilities will include:

Assisting with a varied caseload of cosmetic surgery claims and clinical negligence claims
Reviewing medical records and identifying the key factual and legal issues
Investigating breach of duty, causation and quantum
Instructing and liaising with medical experts, counsel and other professionals
Reviewing expert evidence and assisting with case strategy
Preparing Letters of Claim and other substantive correspondence
Supporting cases through the pre-action process and, where necessary, litigation
Drafting detailed witness statements and schedules of loss
Providing clear, sensitive and practical advice to clients, whilst maintaining excellent client care
Keeping clients informed throughout what can be a difficult and distressing process
Contributing to the continued development and profile of our specialist department

The level of supervision and responsibility will be tailored to your existing experience. You will receive appropriate support while building the technical knowledge, confidence and experience required to manage increasingly complex matters.

About you

We are looking for a qualified solicitor with up to approximately five years’ post-qualification experience. PQE is given as a guide, and applications are also welcomed from candidates with an equivalent level of relevant experience.

You should ideally have:

Experience of claimant clinical negligence work
A sound understanding of the clinical negligence claims process
Strong analytical and drafting skills
Excellent attention to detail and organisational ability
The ability to manage deadlines and competing priorities
A sensitive and empathetic approach to maintaining the high levels of client care we strive to achieve
Clear and confident written and verbal communication skills
A genuine interest in cosmetic surgery negligence

Experience of litigated claims, medical expert evidence or cosmetic surgery cases would be advantageous, but direct cosmetic surgery negligence experience is not essential. More important is a solid grounding in clinical negligence, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to achieving the best possible outcomes for clients.
