Allergan Implants Compensation
On 19th December 2018, it was announced that textured breast implants made by the manufacturer Allergan, also known as Allergan breast implants, were to be removed from the market in Europe. This significant action within the European market was due to the Allergan breast implants being linked to a rare form of lymphoma, called Breast Implant Associated-Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (BIA-ALCL). The initiation of Allergan breast implant lawsuits followed, driven by health concerns and legal proceedings related to these implants.
This move followed advice from the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) on 16th July 2016 which stated that: “Members are advised that all patients seeking breast augmentation should be informed about BIA-ALCL, stressing that this is a very rare condition, which in most cases is readily treatable.”

Signs of BIA-ALCL
BIA-ALCL typically presents as a late asymptomatic swelling of the breast long after surgery - usually between three and 14 years post-implantation.
