tummy tuck
A tummy tuck, technically known as abdominoplasty, is an operation designed to remove excess fat or skin from the abdomen to create a tighter, flatter stomach or reduce the appearance of stretch marks.
While the decision to have a tummy tuck is personal to every individual patient, it is most commonly favoured by those who have lost a considerable amount of weight. Other patients, however, include those who have recently given birth or have undergone successful stomach surgery for obesity.
According to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), around 2,700 tummy tuck operations were carried out in the UK in 2006.
You may feel dissatisfied that your surgery has not provided the results you required or that you've suffered needless pain because of it.
Below is a list of typical problems associated with tummy tuck operations:
- Excessive scarring or inappropriately placed scarring which is too high and visible above the waistline
- Insufficient removal of excess tissue leading to contour deformity
- Puckering of the skin around the scar line
- Loss of sensation and numbness due to nerve damage
- Flaps of skin remaining on either side of the stomach, known as dog-ears
- Infection
